Welcome to the VDMA Industrie 4.0 Forum
“Industrie 4.0” – This term stands for the fourth industrial revolution. With the Industrie 4.0 forum, the VDMA pools all existing expertise within the sector and association, creates the necessary platforms for cooperation and information sharing, and supports both users and providers among VDMA member companies to actively shape the transformation to a smart factory.
Industrie 4.0 – Our Vision
The German mechanical and plant engineering industry is in an advantageous position. It delivers successful key technologies for customers in Germany and abroad and, as the German industry’s innovative backbone, guarantees growth and prosperity in our society. It is precisely this advantageous position that obliges us to intensively deal with new developments and forms in industrial production, and Industrie 4.0 forms part of this.
Industrie 4.0 – An Alignment
The term “Industrie 4.0” stands for the fourth industrial revolution. After mechanisation arising from water and steam power, mass manufacturing arising from electrification and continuous production and the further automation of manufacturing through the use of electronics and IT, the “Internet of things and services” is now emerging in factories. Industrie 4.0 is in no way a parallel universe, but rather headway on our journey toward the future.
Plattform Industrie 4.0: Largest Industrie 4.0 network worldwide

The compilation “Industrie 4.0 Research at German Research Institutes – Overview” provides VDMA members with an overview of the work of German research institutes in the Industrie 4.0 environment.
Industrie 4.0 is already changing the world of work today.
The guide “Data Protection & Industrie 4.0 – how to treat personal data on a corporate level“ is meant to facilitate for you, as a member of the VDMA, the access to data protection in Industrie 4.0 and indicate at the same time approaches and further sources of information to minimise your risk and create awareness for data protection issues.
